Future Citi Handlowy CEO and Citi Country Officer appointed

The Supervisory Board of Citi Handlowy has appointed Elzbieta Czetwertynska as the deputy chief executive officer of the bank’s management board as of June 18, 2021. The Supervisory Board said it would ask the Polish Financial Supervisory Authority (KNF) for approval to appoint Elzbieta Czetwertynska as the president of the management board and until then entrusted her with the duties of acting CEO of the bank. At the same time, Elzbieta Czetwertynska will supervise all Citi operations in Poland as Citi Country Officer.

The change to the post of the bank’s chief executive officer has been planned in advance, and is in line with the long-term succession plan prepared by the Supervisory Board and the president of the management board. Several months ago Slawomir Sikora informed the board that he would not apply for a new term and would end his tenure at the bank as of the day of the Shareholders’ Meeting planned for June 17th this year.
Elzbieta Czetwertynska is a bank manager with 27-years of experience gained while working in six countries in both the Americas and in Europe. This includes 10 years at Citi Handlowy, where she headed risk teams and later was responsible for servicing small and medium companies. She currently manages Citi operations in Switzerland, Monaco and Lichtenstein.

“When I announced my decision in March I said that the change would be smooth as the process of my succession had been advanced. I am happy with the Supervisory Board’s choice as Elzbieta hasa proven record as an effective manager. I have no doubts she will offer a fresh assessment of the bank and its market opportunities. She has a lot of energy, great experience, good knowledge of the global banking market and the skills to build fantastic relations with clients.” – said Sławomir Sikora, current CEO of Citi Handlowy.
“I am honored to be joining Citi Handlowy again. I trust that the experience gained in other Citi markets in various parts of the world will be useful in serving our company well. I was born in Poland, and I am thrilled to be back to my home country and to be able to put my experience to work here. Citi Handlowy is a traditional institution with a proud history of providing the best banking services to our institutional and retail clients. It has a strong market position, and Poland is a priority market for Citi in the EMEA region. I would like to thank Slawek for handing over a bank that is strong, stable, and trusted by our clients. I look forward to joining the great Citi Handlowy team to continue the expansion of our institutional banking business and strengthening our leading market position.” – said Elzbieta Czetwertynska, new deputy chief executive officer and a candidate for Citi Handlowy CEO post.
After getting Polish Financial Supervisory Commission’s approval, Elzbieta Czetwertynska will be the 27th CEO and the first woman in this post in Bank Handlowy’s 150-year history.
